So, I just sent a query letter about illustrating a book about the dogwood tree. First time to submit since before my daughter was born in 1989. Wow. The picture is of the letters dated back then. I have learned a lot since then. One of which is how to write a better submissions letter and two … NEVER GIVE UP !!

So, I have been really studying children’s book illustrators who paint realistically. I have never felt good about what I do. But I am starting to feel good about my abilities. I don’t mean to seem like I’m bragging. If you knew me ten you would know how long I have struggled to get here.
Now that isn’t saying that there is no room for improvement because you are always learning and trying to improve.
That said. I always trying to figure out what makes an image an illustration. When looking at some I these very reputable illustrators, I just wonder what makes it an illustration vs just a piece of great art.
So, for months now I have been driving almost an hour and a half to paint with a group of ladies. Since I work from my home, this just gives me the opportunity to be free from the confinement of my home office. I arm myself with a bacon egg cheese biscuit and a cup of coffee. To which, I add a tiny bit I chocolate chips as my treat. I put Pandora on my radio and blast away in my little orange Volkswagen bug. The drive gives me a chance to just free my mind and sometimes focus on new things and to allow myself time with God to pray for my girls, my husband and to just thank Him for things. 🙂
New blog. Posting from phone for the first time.
